Requirements
BTLabel works with the Brother P-touch PT‑P300BT label printer over Bluetooth, on macOS. It is designed for this specific printer and 12 mm tape.
One-time setup
- Open the Bluetooth menu in the macOS menu bar (or System Settings → Bluetooth) and connect to the PT-P300. You only do this once.
- If macOS prompts you to configure a printer, click Cancel — BTLabel talks to the printer directly and never adds it as a system printer.
Each time you print
- Power on the printer and make sure 12 mm tape is loaded.
- Click the Status refresh button next to the printer name to confirm the connection — you'll see the loaded tape's width and color.
After the one-time pairing you don't need the Bluetooth menu again — just power on and print.
Designing without a printer
You can create and edit labels, save favorites, and preview exactly what will print at any time. The printer only needs to be on and connected when you actually print.
Frequently asked questions
It won't connect / Status shows nothing.
Re-check the Bluetooth connection in the menu bar — the printer must be paired and connected there first. Then click Status again. Make sure the printer is on and not connected to another device or app at the same time.
Which languages are supported?
Labels use Latin-script text (English and Western European languages such as French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese). Other scripts — Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, and so on — can be added by pasting an image into a label.
What's the difference between Basic and Advanced mode?
Basic mode (the default) keeps things simple: type your text and print. Turn on Advanced in the top bar to add multiple cells, symbols, images, and per-cell formatting.
How do substitution tokens work?
Type a token in a text cell and it fills in automatically: /n name,
/p phone, /s street, /e email (set these in
Settings), /i of /c for numbering, and /d
(plus /d1–/d5) for dates. A token only applies when
followed by a space, punctuation, or the end of a line.
Does my data sync between Macs?
Yes. Favorites, folders, history, and contact fields sync through your private iCloud account across Macs signed in to the same Apple ID. See our Privacy Policy for what is and isn't collected.
What does the purchase unlock?
BTLabel is free to try, with up to 5 free prints. A one-time in-app purchase unlocks unlimited printing. All design features are available during the trial.
Can I build it myself?
Yes — the full source is on GitHub and you may build it for your own use for free. The App Store version is a paid convenience (signed, notarized, auto-updating).
